Apr. 16 - May. 7, 2023

Jesus reveals himself in Scripture as creator (at the beginning of time), carpenter (with his birth into the home of Joseph), gardener (at the resurrection), and king (in the new Jerusalem). Jesus is God and chose these roles and work for himself. What does it mean that our God is a creator? That our savior is a carpenter or gardener? What kind of king is he? What do these reveal to us about the work we do each day?

Join Damascus Road for Jesus the Creator, Carpenter, Gardener, and King as we explore these roles through which our Savior reveals himself to us and what they mean for our own work.

Mar. 26 - Apr. 9, 2023

As Easter nears we prepare to rejoice in our victory through Christ. But before there was victory there was defeat, a cross had to come before the crown. The story of redemption tells us that this is Felix Culpa; a fortunate fall. It is the worst of humanity that stains the glass of grace and gives it color. In our weakness we are strong.

Join Damascus Road this Easter season for Felix Culpa, as we consider the fortunate fall that results in the greatest story of grace and redemption.

When we’re honest, brutally honest about the state of the world, it doesn’t seem to be getting better. The western ideal of utopian progress is falling apart and is often built on the backs of cheap labor and injustice. Gun violence, suicide, rape culture, naked aggression and war...the world is not well. And it’s not just in big areas, it’s in small ones too. Much of what our generation calls “culture,” Jesus and the writers of the Bible call “the world.” Ancient apprentices of Jesus spoke of the three enemies of the soul: the world, the flesh, and the devil. And when the world not only normalizes but celebrates us when we live by lies and gratify our flesh we need to not only learn to be in the world but not of it but to be a city on a hill pointing the way to a whole different way to live.

FEB. 5 - FEB. 26, 2023

There are certain places the biblical narrative keeps coming back to - a stormy sea, a breathtaking mountaintop, a vast desert, a lush garden. While the significance of these places may be lost on us, the ancient reader would understand their meaning right away. These are places where one would meet God, places of chaos, places of life, and places of solitude, and they are as accessible to us today as they were then.

Join Damascus Road for Holy Places, as we turn to these set apart settings of the Bible to discover the deeper meaning of mountains, seas, deserts, and gardens.

America - Land of the Free and Home of the Brave. For a country that declared our independence from our former rulers and fought for our freedom of self-determination and governance, freedom is a value. Perhaps the paramount value of the American cultural experiment. But what started as a freedom for the pursuit of happiness has become a freedom from all outside authority or restraint. And instead of more freedom we are finding that without some limitations people are floundering. Without some guidance beyond our feelings we quickly follow those feelings not to freedom but to bondage. Absolute freedom has actually led to slavery. But we continue to turn a blind eye as a society to the reality that freedom is not the ultimate good nor is it the value that should be cherished about all others. It does not deliver what it promises. For us to flourish we need more than just freedom. Join us as we explore what the Bible says we actually need to live a truly free life and how to break the chains we find on our hearts.
